Vasantha Panchami, also called as Sri Panchami is dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, the Hindu goddess of learning. The popular belief is that goddess Saraswati made her appearance for the good of the human beings on that day. The Saraswati is the goddess of knowledge and wisdom as well as music and performing arts. Young children are also initiated into the world of learning on that day and are brought to Saraswathi temple, Basara to do the learning ceremony called Akshara Abyasam. Since yellow is the colour of this day, the people wear yellow colour dress. Other than Goddess Saraswati, Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Vishnu are worshipped on Sri Panchami.
