The Festival has been organizing every year by I-CARD(Institution for Culture and Rural Development) since 2012 to showcase tibes and their lifestyles. The Annual Ethnique Cultural Tourism Festival aimed to promote music, art & culture while paying ode to the ethereal beauty of the almond groves that gives a nostalgic feeling to every visitor. The Jorhat Almond Grove Festival will be held from 8 to 10 January. Every year a different tribe has join to this festival: Bodos, Karbis, Tripuris, Nagas, Mizos, Aasi Tea Tribe, Sonowal Kacharis and Deoris have taken their turns in the festival, presenting their unique cultural traits. This fiesta will also aim to help the underprivileged youth in developing various skills while providing them with employment options in Tourism and other sectors. This fiesta is entirely a work of young school dropouts, trained by the Institution for Culture And Rural Development (I-CARD) to be agents of transformation and cultural ambassadors.FESTIVAL CONCEPTS
From hour one, at 12 noon of 8th January, the fiesta brings you a different Jorhat, a unique taste of north east India. With a wide array of interactive programs, a generous sprinkling of culture, ethnic cuisine, and beats of the music that is the essence of tribal life in the region, the festival will lead to a better understanding between ethnic communities and provide exposure to the isolated ones.
For full 30 hours, Life Plus Campus in Baghchung, Jorhat, will vibe with songs, dances, video and photo exhibits, food stalls, fashion shows and rural life-scene presentations, all happening simultaneously on multiple stages. Just grab a plate from the food court and walk around, for hours or for the time you have. You wont miss anything, because actions happen on multiple stages. The food court offers you 16 varieties of tribal delicacies. Welcome to taste them all.
Keep munching, keep moving.
Ethnique, as the name suggests, will exhibit the culture of the tribal community and introduce Jorhat to such unique concepts as fair trade, unpolluted environ and sustainability. It will bring to you live the music, food and the culture of the “The Riverine people”, whose life, folklore and traditions have evolved around the fertile banks of the Brahmaputra. This uniquely dynamic three-day fiesta will promote interaction, facilitate learning, spread awareness about the tribal community and encourage fun and amusement as we welcome the new year. Rituals that tribal people perform in villages will be enacted during the festival. It is going to be a learning experience.
