Drass Valley is the Gateway is a Himalayan Highland locally known as 'HIMBABS' A sanskrit name meaning 'The Abode of Snow'. It is believed to be the second coldest inhabited place in the world after Siberia. Mercury drops to as low as record -60 degree Celsius. The inhabitants are tough and hard working. Ethnically they are believed to be the shin tribe of Dard stock The Valley offers some good sightseeing features. Drass valley posses many splendors of nature, some of its features got fame and were much focused in the Electronic Media during the Kargil Conflict of 1999.The war time topographies of Tololing, Tiger Hill and Mushko valley are places of attraction.Ladakh Drass Festival will be organized by the Tourism Department with the help of the locals aims to promote tourism and the rich culture of the region.
