Bishu Festival
Bishu is an important festival of the Dimasa Kacharis celebrated on the 27th January every
year. It is essentially a post-harvest festival celebrated after all the hard-earned paddy grains are
harvested, threshed, cleaned and stored in the granaries for year-long consumption
This festival is basically a festival of relaxation from hard labour and eventually merry making.
It is a joyous day....

It is a joyous day for all sections of society irrespective of age, sex, clans and socio-economic
standings. Notwithstanding whatever be the kind of Bishu as described above, the basics and the
soul of the festival is offering prayer to the Almighty, paying respects to the elders and feasting and
merry making through singing, dancing and playing music.
