According to popular
myth, during a famine, people from nearby areas started moving to the forest in
search of edible roots and leaves. A man called Basu was digging the earth when
his foot touched Shiva and started bleeding. Basu panicked but Shiva is said to
have urged Basu to worship the lingam. Pleased Lord shiva gave him a boon that
the area would hence forth be know....
