One of the most unusual fairs the country, Ambubachi Mela is held in the Kamakhya Temple It transforms the otherwise crowded temple into a gathering of tantrics and sages. Held mid-June, Ambubachi coincide with what is believed to the annual menstruation cycle of Goddess Shakti. Saffron clad tantrics camp here anticipating the final day of the festival, when the doors of the sanctum sanctorum are opened.
