Ratha Saptami is a significant festival dedicated to Lord Sri Suryanarayana Swamy, celebrated at the Arasavalli temple in Srikakulam, Andhra Pradesh. This festival, also known as Surya Jayanti, marks the birth of the Sun God and symbolizes the transition from darkness to light, coinciding with the end of winter and the onset of spring. Traditionally, Ratha Saptami falls on the seventh day (Saptami) of the bright half (Shukla Paksha) of the Hindu month of Magha, which usually corresponds to February or March. In 2025On this auspicious day, devotees gather at the Arasavalli temple to offer prayers and participate in special rituals. The deity is adorned beautifully, and a procession on a chariot is conducted, symbolizing the Sun God's journey across the sky. Devotees believe that taking 'Teertha Prasadams' (holy offerings) during this time bestows health and prosperity.Recently, the government has declared Ratha Saptami at Arasavalli as a state festival, highlighting its cultural and religious importance. It is a belief that our Country goes into light from darkness from this day every year. The winter season ceases & spring season starts. Our bodies will have a chemical reaction with the sun rays and we become healthy. Mythologically it is said to be Sun God's birthday. Special rays and vibrations are supposed to be present in the temple premises & it is also said that devotees taking Teertha Prasadams will be blessed with wealth and health. Lord Surya Narayana Swamy has a chariot with one wheel and there are seven horses representing the seven colors of light that is VIBGYOR. Lord Rama Worshipped Surya before killing Ravana.
