Sharvan Bilimora Utsav

The Somnath Temple in Bilimora, Gujarat, is a revered and ancient temple dedicated to Lord Shiva, known for housing a Swayambhu Shivlinga—a self-manifested form of Shiva that enhances the sanctity of the shrine. Believed to be around 1600 years old, this temple stands as one of the tallest Mahadev temples in South Gujarat, with its spire reportedly visible from the Arabian Sea. Nestled conveniently near the Bilimora Railway Station, the temple is easily accessible by road and rail, making it a popular pilgrimage destination. The temple complex is known for its cleanliness, serene atmosphere, and well-maintained decorations, providing visitors with a peaceful and spiritual experience. A particularly vibrant time is during the Gujarati month of Shravan (usually July–August), when thousands of devotees, including many who travel on foot from districts like Surat, Valsad, and Bharuch, gather for rituals such as the Rudri and Maha Rudri poojas held every Monday. An annual fair is also organized near the temple during this period, spanning nearly half a kilometer, where merchants sell household goods and the air buzzes with community spirit. Celebrations like Mahashivratri further add to the temple’s spiritual significance, making it not just a place of worship but also a cultural heartbeat of the region.
