Every year, during Bhadra Sud Aatham of the Hindu calendar (usually in September), a grand and vibrant fair is held near the revered Ravechi Temple in Nana Raava village, located in the Rapar district of Kutch, Gujarat. The Sacred Ravechi Temple The Ravechi Temple, standing at an impressive height of over 52 feet, is dedicated to Goddess Ravechi and is situated on the banks of a large village pond. According to legend, the temple was originally built in Samvat 1878 (1821 AD) by the Pandavas, and the image of the goddess is believed to be self-incarnated (Swayambhu). The temple features a striking architectural layout with nine finely carved domed shrines and porches. Historical records suggest that the original structure was destroyed by the troops of a Babi chief, but the sanctity and devotion surrounding the temple have endured.Within the shrine, the main idol of Ravechi Mata, smeared with red paint and butter, sits alongside five other deities. A notable feature is the statue of Naklank, the Horse incarnation of Vishnu, depicted standing on three legs on a pillar opposite the goddess. An Akhand Jyot (eternal flame) burns continuously within the temple and is worshipped by countless devotees, symbolizing the undying devotion of the people of Kutch. The Grand Ravechi Fair-The Ravechi Fair is not just a religious event but a major cultural celebration in the Vagad region of Kutch. Thousands of visitors, both domestic and international, travel to Gujarat to witness and participate in this vibrant confluence of devotion, tradition, and community spirit.Communities such as the Ahir, Rabari, and Charan play a vital role in the fair, contributing with their music, dance, and spiritual practices. Devotees come together to perform bhajans (devotional songs), dance, and the traditional Garba at the temple site, creating an atmosphere of unity and joy.A Cultural Melting Pot-The Ravechi Fair is a perfect example of cultural harmony, attracting people from erse backgrounds and offering them a shared space to experience the rich traditions of Gujarat.
