Ranna Utsava

Ranna Utsav’ is a cultural event organized in the Mudhol town of Bagalkot district. This festival is organized to commemorate the great 10th-century poet Mahakavi Ranna. Ranna was born in a village in the Mudhol Taluk in the Bagalkot district of Karnataka. In his memory, the village is now known as Ranna Belagali. The 'Ranna Utsav' is a delightful confluence of poetry, music, dance, and drama, and is organised by the District Administration in association with the Department of Kannada and Culture. The great poet who lived in the 10th century was a court poet of the Chalukya king Tailapa and his son. Ranna was bestowed with the title of “Kavichakravarthi,” by the king. Some of the famous works of Ranna include Sahasabheema Vijayam, Parasurama Charita, Rannakanda, and Ajitha Tirthankara Purana.
