International Day of Yoga (IDY): The 21st of June was officially recognized as the International Day of Yoga (IDY) by the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in December 2014, following a proposal by the Honorable Prime Minister of India. The resolution, supported by a record number of countries, acknowledged yoga's universal appeal and its potential to promote holistic health and well-being. Since its inception in 2015, IDY has been celebrated annually around the globe with widespread enthusiasm and participation.The observance of IDY highlights the profound potential of yoga to enhance physical, mental, and emotional well-being. More than a celebration of an ancient tradition, IDY aims to advocate for and inspire the global adoption of yoga by showcasing its transformative benefits. Over the years, the initiative has not only popularized yoga worldwide but also expanded its geographical reach, encouraging its integration into daily life across erse cultures and communities. IDY has played a significant role in advancing the field of yoga. These advancements include the development of standardized yoga protocols suitable for all age groups. The creation of specialized modules addressing lifestyle-related diseases.Promoting research on yoga as a tool for productivity enhancement and stress reduction. In India, the Ministry of Ayush (MoA) serves as the nodal agency for coordinating and promoting IDY activities. The success of IDY as a global movement would not have been possible without collaborative efforts. Over the past decade, the Ministry of Tourism has forged partnerships with key stakeholders, including State/UT Governments, Yoga institutions and wellness centers, Independent practitioners, Non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and Other civil society organizations.As part of the International Day of Yoga (IDY) 2025 celebrations, Southern Regional office, Ministry of Tourism, Government of India is organizing IDY celebrations at prominent tourist locations across Tamil Nadu to raise awareness about Yoga and its benefits. Accordingly, a Yoga Demonstration Program with the theme "Yoga for One Earth, One Health" on 21st June 2025 at the Lawns of the Shore Temple, Mamallapuram, with participation from students will be organized. Common Yoga Protocol (CYP): The Common Yoga Protocol (CYP) is a structured 45-minute Yoga routine that serves as the core of International Day of Yoga (IDY) celebrations. Developed in 2015 by some of India's most esteemed Yoga gurus, it was designed to facilitate large-scale, synchronized Yoga demonstrations for IDY. The sequence consists of carefully chosen asanas, making it an ideal introduction for beginners while ensuring accessibility for people of all ages and backgrounds.
