Diwali Festival
A fair is being held every year at Tripura Sundari Temple, Matabari in Gomati District during the time of Dipawali Utshav. Matabari is at a distance of 56 km. from Agartala and located on a hill top is regarded as one of the 51 piths of Hindu pilgrims. It consists of a square type sanctum of the typical Bengali hut type and was constructed by Maharaja Dhanya Manikya in 1501 AD. The lake in front of the Tripura Sundari Temple has added to its beauty. Lakhs of devotees visit the temple round the year particularly during the Diwali festival. The District town Udaipur is also called as temple city. It may be mentioned here that whether such fair would have been held in the past is not known. But from 1903 AD on wards a fair began to be held annually at the Tripurasundari Temple (Matabari) premises.

Activities
The entire area will be decorated during the festival by setting up of arches, gates, columns etc. good number of banners, flex and scroll will also be displayed in and around Matabari premises area as well as in Agartala the state capital and whole South District. It will also be decorated with flag, festoons, flex night illumination etc. A cultural stage will be setup at Matabari for organizing cultural programmes where cultural troupes from different parts of the state specially from 19 ethnic the groups of Tripura will participate. A part from this, cultural troupes will also be invited from the neighboring states of Assam, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Manipur and also West Bengal and Orissa. An exhibition will be organized by setting up of a good number of stalls. Many Government Departments, NGO’s will participate in the exhibition. The traditional cultures of the state will be shown in the exhibition in a befitting manner. From Tourism also numbers of stalls will be setup for showcasing different Tourist Spots of the state with adequate information as regards Tripura Tourism.
